The III International Duzdag Research Congress was held on the joint initiative of Nakhchivan State University, the Nakhchivan Trade Unions Council, “Çankırı Karatekin” University, “Iğdır” University, “Rzeszow” University (Poland), the Nakhchivan Branch of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (ANAS), and the Institute of Soil Science and Agrochemistry of the Ministry of Science and Education of Azerbaijan.
The opening ceremony of the Congress took place at the “Duzdag” Treatment Center. The purpose of the event was to explore the geological, medical, ecological, and tourism potential of salt mines through scientific approaches, to discuss ongoing research in this field at the international level, and to create new opportunities for cooperation in speleotherapy and health tourism.
Before the opening ceremony, participants got acquainted themselves with the renovated infrastructure of the treatment center. Guests received information about special areas designated for patients, the library, the conference hall, and the overall operational principles of the facility. It was noted that the salt cave, located 1,100 meters below sea level and with a total length of 46 kilometers, currently has 440 beds.
Speakers at the event that followed emphasized the importance of systematic scientific research on Duzdag, the opportunities for international cooperation, and the significance of future studies. Confidence was expressed that the Congress will make an important contribution to promoting Duzdag on scientific grounds both locally and internationally.
At the end of the event, gifts were presented to the organizers by Nakhchivan State University and the Nakhchivan Trade Unions Council.
The Congress continued with sectional meetings held at Nakhchivan State University.
