An international chess tournament titled “Compatriot Children” was held in Baku, organized by EduLAB Chess School.
Young chess players aged 6 to 15 from Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan competed in the tournament.
At the opening ceremony, Rector of the Azerbaijan Technical University Vilayat Valiyev, Head of Sector at the Ministry of Science and Education Hilal Salmanov, and Adviser to the Chairman of the Azerbaijan Trade Unions Confederation (AHIK) Jamaladdin Guliyev delivered speeches emphasizing the important role such events play in the intellectual development and experience-building of children and adolescents.
It is worth noting that students of the Chess and Mind Games Division of the Azerbaijan Trade Unions Sports Organizations Association (AHİİTA), which operates under the AHIK, performed successfully in the tournament.
In the rapid (10+5) stage of the tournament, AHİİTA trainee Zavir Hacızade placed 2nd among 158 participants. In the blitz (3+2) stage, Huseyn Mammadzade ranked 4th and Ilyas Ali ranked 5th out of 106 participants.
