The Azerbaijan Trade Unions Confederation celebrated its 33rd anniversary

An event was held to mark the 33rd anniversary of the establishment of the Azerbaijan Trade Unions Confederation (AHIK).

The event was attended by the leadership and staff of AHIK, representatives of member and subordinate organizations, and trade union members. The ceremony began with the performance of the State Anthem of the Republic of Azerbaijan, followed by a minute of silence in honor of the cherished memory of the National Leader Heydar Aliyev and the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the homeland.

Chairman of the Azerbaijan Trade Unions Confederation, Sahib Mammadov, delivered a speech highlighting the history, activities, and development path of AHIK. He emphasized that the Law “On Trade Unions,” adopted in 1994 at the initiative of the National Leader Heydar Aliyev, played a crucial role in the formation of the Confederation, the advancement of the trade union movement, and the strengthening of civil society.

It was noted that the continuous attention and support provided to trade unions by President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev make a significant contribution to the protection of labour rights, the development of social dialogue, and the обеспечение of decent working conditions. As a result, trade unions play an important role in regulating labour relations. The importance of humanitarian and social projects initiated by First Vice-President Mehriban Aliyeva was also highlighted, as these initiatives support trade union members and contribute to the country’s socio-economic development.

The speech also addressed AHIK’s activities in defending workers’ rights, ensuring occupational safety and health, fulfilling obligations under the Main Collective Agreement, as well as its work in the fields of gender equality, youth policy, sports, and education. It was noted that in recent years AHIK has taken significant steps to modernize its operations, introduce digital solutions, and expand social projects. These initiatives have a positive impact on strengthening social protection and increasing the engagement of trade union members.

During the event, video presentations reflecting the history of the trade union movement and the activities of AHIK were shown. Remarks were delivered by veteran trade union member Leyla Acalova, Presidential Youth Award recipient and Karabakh University employee Lamiya Mammadzade, as well as participants of the Patriotic War and colleagues Ruslan Baghirov and Saleh Salahov. They noted that the Confederation’s 33-year history represents not only a rich legacy but also an important source of motivation for future development.

The speakers emphasized the importance of building upon the achievements attained, passing on the values of the trade union movement to future generations, and further strengthening unity and solidarity. At the conclusion of the event, veterans, young trade union activists, and volunteers who distinguished themselves in AHIK’s activities were awarded certificates of appreciation by the Confederation. The celebration concluded with a cultural program.
