A meeting with representatives of the Azerbaijan Basketball Federation (ABF) was held at the Azerbaijan Trade Unions Confederation (AHIK). The meeting was attended by Nigar Vahabzade, Advisor to the AHIK Chairperson; Araz Pashayev, Chairperson of the Republican Committee of the Education and Science Workers’ Trade Union; Farrukh Mahmudov, Executive Vice-President of the ABF; as well as other participants.
The meeting focused on the activities and development prospects of the “Ganja” basketball club. Based on the final decision, the management of the club has been entrusted to the Republican Committee of the Education and Science Workers’ Trade Union. In addition, it is envisaged that the “Ganja” basketball club will become a member of the Azerbaijan Trade Unions Sports Organizations Association.
It should be noted that the club has demonstrated successful results over the past three seasons. In particular, the team reached the finals of the Azerbaijan Basketball League in the 2022/23 season and won the Azerbaijan Cup in the same year. In the most recent season, the team continued its strong performance by advancing from Group B to Group A.
One of the significant factors contributing to the club’s development is that Ganja is the second-largest city in the country and an important industrial, commercial, and cultural center. The fact that the CIS Games are being held there this year, along with the city residents’ strong interest in sports, provides additional impetus for the club’s future achievements.
