Trade Union of Science and Education Workers

 

Trade Union of Science and Education Workers was established on June 9, 1920, under the name of Azerbaijan Cultural-Educational Workers Trade Union. Prior to that time, several teachers’ unions operated in Azerbaijan. Over the years, the organization operated under various names and, since 1990, was known as the Independent Trade Union of Azerbaijan Education Employees. As of July 2025, the union has been renamed the Trade Union of Science and Education Workers.

The Republican Committee of the Trade Union of Science and Education Workers is a nationwide association of trade union organizations formed by workplace, profession, region, and sector. As a member organization of the Azerbaijan Trade Unions Confederation, it protects the labor, social, and economic rights, as well as the legitimate interests, of education workers and students.

The union unites over 5,700 primary trade union organizations operating in all regions of the country and has nearly 400,000 members.

As part of its international cooperation efforts, the union establishes bilateral relations with counterpart trade union organizations in various countries for the purpose of exchanging experience and information. It is also a full member of several international trade union organizations.

Main areas of activity of the Republican Committee of the Trade Union of Science and Education Workers:

  • Protection of labor, socio-economic rights, and legitimate interests of union members;
  • Strengthening the social protection of union members;
  • Effective organization of union members’ leisure time;
  • Protection of union members’ health;
  • Occupational safety, creation of decent workplaces, and provision of appropriate educational conditions;
  • Organization of cultural, sports, and intellectual development events;
  • Involvement of new members.
